This beautiful print is one of a series of twelve Tanzaku prints, illustrated by the wonderful Kyoto artist Tomikichiro Tokuriki: Kyo Juni-ka-getsu (Twelve Months of Kyoto).
This woodblock print is dated 1939. This original artwork is created using warm shades of reds and browns. The maiko, who we've just caught a glimpse of as she walks along a narrow lane of teahouses in Gion hanamachi, has a beautiful contrasting obi sash in an inky blue.
Before establishing Zusetsu I had a long career as a successful children's book illustrator.
It is a real pleasure to discover beautiful woodblock prints in Kyoto for our Zusetsu Art store. All of our art is selected especially for its artistic merit. We are thrilled to be able to offer beautiful woodblock prints to you at affordable prices: they create wonderful gifts.
